As a result of a survey completed by the qathet Regional District last year, they noted that a large number of Savaryites expressed interest in preserving the sensitive ecology of the island and are wanting to know more about plans for managing the ongoing erosion that is so evident, especially this past year, on the island. Here is a way to get involved!
The Regional District is working with the City of Powell River and Tla’amin Nation on a Regional Coastal Flood Adaptation Strategy. The purpose of this work is to look at how to address the impacts of higher flood and erosion risk on our coastline due to climate change, sea level rise, and coastal storms.
This project will help them better understand flood and erosion risks on the shoreline in our region as well as best practices for addressing those risks. Please get involved, and please forward this invitation widely to anyone else who might be interested in this project! There are a few opportunities to learn more and share your ideas:
- Virtual Flood Resilience Game Night on April 27, 6:00 – 8:30 pm (click here for info)
- Online survey will be available from April 13 to April 29, 2022 on the Regional District’s website: https://www.qathet.ca/current_project/regional-coastal-flood-adaptation-strategy/
