We Need more Firefighters and First Responders

In discussion with SIVFD Fire Chief Chris Philpott, ASIC has learned that more firefighters and First Responders are needed, especially from the east part of the island, to meet the community’s emergency needs, particularly with the likely 2021 spring and summer influx of residents and visitors. Last year, SIVFD received numerous 9-1-1 calls, and it is expected the same will hold true this year as the island population continues to grow. Volunteers retire or move away, so this island will always need more volunteers to fill the vacancies.
