As Savary has developed over the last hundred years, organized groups have formed for recreational, political, conservation or fundraising purposes, to help better life on island for both residents and visitors. Sometimes it is hard to keep up with all the acronyms! With an abundance of new owners on island it felt like a good time for a refresher, both for ourselves, and for ASIC members.
To start, we’d like to reconfirm ASIC’s role. As laid out in ASIC’s Constitution and Bylaws, members are registered Savary property owners, and ASIC serves these 4 Purposes:
a) To advocate and to act for the members when liaising with government agencies, other organizations and individuals.
b) To advise government agencies on the financial and administrative management of Savary Island affairs and services.
c) To strive for local control over policy-making and activities that affect our community, including decisions as to how our tax dollars are allocated, so as to meet the needs of our community.
d) To strive for fairness that is reflective of the diverse values of the members, by consideration of majority and minority opinion in decision-making.
To view the other organizations and related governmental agencies that serve Savary, please download Savary Groups. As new Directors, our aim is to meet with all groups supporting the island over the coming few months as we seek alignment and opportunities to join together to support the future of the island. Please feel free to email us at asic@savaryisland.org if you have a group that isn’t listed here that you think we should know about and consult with.
